Rock Your World

Acrylic, 2017

With this painting I began with two images I have on file from my travels across Canada. One image is that of rock-stacking on a west coast beach at sunset, the other image was a self-portrait of me looking at the horizon at sunset. I begin with sketching the central ideas or focal point for the painting, then I let intuition lead through memories, the use of music and artist's intuition - when it comes to positive/negative space and overall composition. The background was not planned, not designed, not laid out prior; just painted in the moment and in balance to the foreground (focal point) of the piece. When I look at the final piece I realize that the piece speaks to many places, influences and ideas - centered in intuition.
