The source material for this painting came from the Canadian War archives. I found this beautifully haunting, and almost too perfect, photo of a female RCAF member who upon arriving oversees in England had her photo taken in front of the Union Jack Flag. I wanted to capture this on canvas with the male troops on the horizon of the Union Jack flag. The poppies in the foreground painted very simply, almost as if a child had drawn them on the canvas. Remember Us speaks to Remembrance Day and feelings around the women who served alongside the men.
