Reframing Canada – The Imaginative Paintings of Brandy Saturley
Imaginative and engaging, the paintings of Canadian Artist, Brandy Saturley, are vivid love letters inspired by Canada and beyond. On this page you will find a random assortment of original paintings created by the Canadian painter. These paintings reflect the career of the artist, and this online art gallery features available and sold artworks from 2006 to present day. Symbolic paintings rendered using the finest acrylic paints, the world’s most versatile medium. Saturley utilizes many techniques to create the effect she is seeking, her process is anchored in the Old Masters’ technique of creating a grisaille underpainting (a black, white and grey version of the painting to which colour glazes will be applied) Saturley also employs the use of coloured grounds, underpainting the entire canvas in a specific colour which will show through in certain areas of the painting. Over the years Saturley has also incorporated pouring of paint, creation of acrylic skins, collage, and subtractive effects using scratching and taping to remove paint from desired areas of the painting. She has created paintings on linen and cotton canvas, on paper, wood panel, wood veneer and even rubber hockey pucks. Time and time again Saturley has returned to traditional painting on canvas. Her obsession with mastering acrylics and the figurative painting keeps propelling her work in new directions, as she finds ways to symbolically express visual stories of the landscapes, people and things that surround.
