Figurative Art – Portrait Paintings by Brandy Saturley

Brandy Saturley is, at heart, a figurative painter. Whether creating a sweeping Canadian landscape or telling the story of a person she has encountered, the human presence is never far from her work. Even her landscapes are rooted in narrative, inviting viewers to imagine the people, history, and experiences that shape each place.

Throughout her career, portrait paintings have remained an important part of her artistic practice. From intimate studies of individuals to larger narrative works, Saturley uses portraiture to explore identity, memory, and the many stories that define Canada.

One of her most significant figurative bodies of work is the People of Canada Portrait Project, a collaborative series created with Canadians from coast to coast. Working from photographs submitted by participants, the project celebrates the diversity, resilience, and character of the people who make up the Canadian story.
