To The SEE

Acrylic, 2017

This painting is my take on a Canadian landscape painting. The creative process for this piece was initiated after seeing Magritte's False Mirror painting at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC in 2009. For years the piece by Magritte has been the screensaver on my iPhone - I love the piece for numerous reasons. Now seemed the perfect time to pay homage to the piece in a landscape piece that expresses the islands of Canada and the journey through the islands by boat, kayak or canoe; we have taken many times over the years. The piece also references the Rocky Mountains on the peripheral of the circle or eye, and refers to time passing with the circles. Perhaps I am coming full circle with this piece in my exploration of Canada.
