Where can you find original Canadian Art online? Here are five of our favorite resources.

There are 24,800 visual artists in Canada, and 52% of these artists are self-employed. There are 1389 galleries in Canada, but many represent a stock of similar artists across the country, with a small number of local artists to fill out their rosters. So where can you find a broad range of these 24,800 Canadian artists works for sale?

Buying Canadian Art online is easier than ever, making remarkable artworks from all corners of Canada, easily accessible to any art lover with an Internet connection. With twenty years in the industry, and insatiable appetite for art, I have scoured the country for great artworks, that are readily available online. In my travels I have found that the majority of Canadian art galleries represent a handful of typical names with a few local favorites thrown in, depending on the aesthetic and tastes of the gallery owner. I find it almost redundant for so many galleries across the country to carry so much of the same art. So where can you find great original Canadian art that moves outside the standard landscapes and familiar names?

Most often you can find what I call, ‘the treasure trove’ online these days. As an art lover and art collector, I love the hunt, I love the fun of browsing around and stumbling on something unusual, something I have never seen before. Like my wardrobe, I want something that causes a stir, a talking piece that gets the conversation going among guests. I don’t want classical; I want jazz, rock and new age. So where can an art collector go to discover a little lightening, without having to travel across the country?

Here are five of my favourite websites that promote Canadian art, and help art collectors around the world discover great Canadian art, without having to leave the comfort of their favourite lounge chair.
