Perogies in the Wind

Acrylic, 2013

Painting of perogies hanging on a clothesline on the Edmonton, Alberta prairies. I grew up with a Ukrainian mother who cooked big feasts with multiple courses and long tables of family, friends and strangers. When I was a child I would watch my mother and grandfather roll out the dough on the entire surface of the dining room table and begin to cut the dough into little triangles, spoon filling into the centres, and fold the triangles over pinching the edges. It was performance art at it's best and I enjoyed watching the entire process, hearing the stories, and eating the final product!
