Snow on Arbutus

Acrylic, 2009

The outlines of snow on a forest of Arbutus and fir trees. While Arbutus is seen everywhere on Vancouver Island, snow is a rarity for this part of Canada. I was drawn to the white outlines of the snow and contrast against the cobalt blue sky and vivid warm colours of the Arbutus, with emerald green leaves. This piece was painted for a gallery in Canmore and was a one off as it does not belong to a series. It is an unusual piece from the my early years and is quite modern, abstract and graphic pop art inspired. From the archive.
