Westcoast Abstract

Acrylic, 2007

You will have to experiment and try things out for yourself and you will not be sure of what you are doing. That's all right, you are feeling your way into the thing. ~ Emily Carr
This West Coast abstract painting was painted in 2007 after a day observing muscles growing on the sides of rocks on the sea shore. It is an early painting that was very immediate and more abstract in nature. I was entranced with the abstract shapes of the shells, against the sunny day yellow and the rocks of grey and even tones of purple. I was feeling my way into expressing this Vancouver Island beach on canvas.
